Why BTC?
Baby Too Cold is both a tongue-in-cheek reference to a controversial 90s rap song and a commentary on being a direct person growing up as a critic in the land of Minnesota Nice.™ Cold opinions, cold weather, bringing a little tough love from the tundra. To me, honesty— with respect, of course — is reverence.
I’ve had a 10-year hiatus from writing for myself or publications, so this is an overdue experiment. It’s been a combination of serious writer’s block and life/family/work happening, so bear with me as I get the hang of it all again. I hope to delve deeper into my life, history, and overall thoughts on living in this culture. Maybe for once I let it be messy as I wanna be.
About Me
In my early 20s I infiltrated the male-dominated dance msuic culture as a critic and writer for alt-weeklies and glossy magazines (RIP, and … RIP). I won 3 Society of Professional Journalist awards for my work in digital media editing for the local Minneapolis alt-weekly City Pages, which is one of my proudest accomplishments and I will alway hold that time closest to my heart, as it paved the way for my current reality in every possible way.
I spent the last 10 years in brand marketing running my own consultancy and still celebrate my love for house music by DJing with my husband Ian as Bunnymob (we met as fellow writers at the paper). I’m proud of my early extensive knowledge of early electronic music and hip hop and am still a BIG fan of ‘90s r&b, grunge, and designer vintage fashion,
Lately, I love watching hockey with my astute 7 year-old son Weston (he is the best) and wrangling my two English bulldogs, Hollis and Helen. The whole troupe drives me crazy AND keeps me sane somehow. They’re amazing.
